Military Veterans Honored at Midwestern University’s Dental Institute
November 30, 2017
Students, faculty, and staff from Midwestern University’s College of Dental Medicine-Illinois (CDMI) recently participated in the “Illinois Dentists Salute” initiative to provide no-cost, critically needed dental services to military veterans. The event was organized by the Illinois State Dental Society in honor of Veterans Day.
During the event, Midwestern University dental students, under the guidance of licensed dentists, were able to provide care including dental exams, radiographs, fillings, extractions, and cancer screenings to 55 veterans, providing the equivalent of $6,765 of dental care. More than 60 students and 28 faculty members volunteered for the one-day event at the Midwestern University Dental Institute on November 11, 2017.
“It was a very rewarding experience, and I hope our students will be inspired to volunteer and give back as part of their professional life after graduating from Midwestern University,” said Melisa Burton, D.D.S., M.H.A., Assistant Dean, Clinical Education. Throughout the year, Midwestern University students volunteer to provide dental education and services to local organizations and those in need.
