Carlos Alvarez, D.D.S.
Clinical Assistant Professor
Dr. Carlos M. Alvarez was born in Havana, Cuba and attended Dental School in San Juan, Puerto Rico under an Army Scholarship Program. After graduation, he went on to serve for 31 years in the U.S. Army where he also did his Residency in Oral/Maxillofacial Surgery at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, TX, and attended the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, retiring with the rank of full Colonel. He is a veteran of 3 combat tours and held differing leadership positions in the U.S. Army Medical Department. He has served as Clinical Faculty at Louisiana State University Oral/Maxillofacial Surgery residency training program and also at the University of Texas, San Antonio, Oral/Maxillofacial Surgery residency training program. He served as Oral/Maxillofacial Surgery consultant to the Otolaryngology Service with Stanford University, Palo Alto, CA in head and neck cancer management. In 2005 he went on to private practice in Columbus, OH where he practiced for 12-years serving as Company Executive Vice-President in Clinical Operations and CEO of Realty management with Oral/Maxillofacial Surgery Centers. In 2018, he decided to continue pursuing his passion for education and joined the Midwestern University College of Dental Medicine as a full time Associate Clinical Professor. He is Board Certified in Oral/Maxillofacial Surgery, credentialed in General Anesthesia/Deep Sedation, and is a Life Fellow of the American Association of Oral/Maxillofacial Surgery. He enjoys hiking, rollerblading, competitive shooting sports, outdoor photography, fly-fishing and mountaineering.
