Dentures are made over the course of four or five appointments. Midwestern University students, under the direction of faculty who specialize in Prosthodontics, form a special mold of the mouth. The mold is used to design the denture by hand, for it to be ready for fitting. Each appointment takes 30 minutes to an hour.
Depending on the jaw and bone structure, some dentures require more attention. Fewer bones in a person’s jaw means the denture is more likely to require multiple rounds of fitting and adjusting.
When the denture is complete and comfortable (to the patient), we make follow-up appointments to ensure it’s working well, long-term, and improving quality of life.
