Dental Institute Provides Free Day of Care for U.S. Veterans
February 10, 2020
On Saturday, February 1, the Midwestern University Dental Institute in Glendale, Arizona opened its doors to provide free dental care and consultations to U.S. military veterans.
Faculty dentists and students from the Midwestern University College of Dental Medicine-Arizona (CDMA) spent the day providing free dental exams, consultations, and treatments to Arizona veterans. Nearly 250 veterans had the opportunity to receive free services including cleanings, sealants, fillings, or extractions, as well as consultations about dental implants and dentures and recommendations for follow-up care. CDMA caregivers performed over 550 procedures and more than $43,000 in free care for the veterans, as well as providing ongoing care for several patients who received dentures from the Dental Institute.
The free day of dental services for U.S. veterans is one of several community dental care initiatives provided by the students and faculty at Midwestern University and the Midwestern University Dental Institute. In addition to providing a free day of dental services for children each fall, faculty and students also serve at events held in our local communities, as well as trips to care for underserved communities abroad.
